Brief Biography:

Dr. Ahmedullah Aziz is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Purdue University in 2019, an MS degree in Electrical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University(University Park) in 2016, and a BS degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) in 2013. Before beginning his graduate studies, Dr. Aziz worked in the ‘Tizen Lab’ of the Samsung R&D Institute in Bangladesh as a full-time Engineer. During graduate education, he worked as a Co-Op Engineer (Intern) in the Technology Research division of Global Foundries (Fab 8, NY, USA). He received several awards and accolades for his research, including the ‘ACM SIGDA Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award (2021)’ from the Association of Computing Machinery, ‘EDAA Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award (2020)’ from the European Design and Automation Association, ‘Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award (2019)’ from the College of Engineering, Purdue University, and ‘Icon’ award from Samsung (2013). He was a co-recipient of two best publication awards (2015, 2016) from the SRC-DARPA STARnet Center and the best project award (2013) from CNSER. He is a technical program committee (TPC) member for multiple flagship conferences (including DAC, ISCAS, GLSVLSI, Nano), a reviewer for several journals from reputed publishers (IEEE, AIP, Elsevier, Frontiers, IOP Science, Springer Nature), and a review panelist for the US Department of Energy (DOE). He serves as an editorial board member for multiple journals including – ‘Scientific Reports’, and ’Frontiers in Nanotechnology’. Dr. Aziz is an expert in device-circuit co-design and electronic design automation (EDA). His research laid the foundation for physics-based and semi-physical compact modeling of multiple emerging device technologies, including – Mott switches, oxide memristors, ferroelectric transistors, Josephson Junctions, cryotrons, topological memory/switches, and so on. His research portfolio comprises multiple avenues of exploratory nanoelectronics, spanning from device modeling to circuit/array design. In addition, Dr. Aziz has been a trailblazer in cryogenic memory technologies, facilitating critical advancements in quantum computing systems and space electronics.

Brief Biography:

Shamiul completed his Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2017. He joined the NorDIC Lab in Spring 2020 to pursue his PhD at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Before starting his PhD, he has worked as an Adjunct Lecturer in the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Dhaka, Bangladesh. His research interests include modeling of emerging nano-electronic devices and analyzing their application in integrated circuit and system design. He also works on Josephson junction based cryogenic superconducting devices, ferroelectric semiconductors etc.

Brief Biography:

Mazharul received his B.S. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2017. He then worked at several Universities (in Dhaka, Bangladesh) as a Lecturer. He started his doctoral studies at UTK in Fall 2020. His research interest includes Emerging memory Devices, Beyond CMOS technologies, and Neuromorphic hardware.

Brief Biography:

Udoy received his B.S. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2019. He has worked as a Lecturer at Daffodil International University and BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He will be joining the NorDIC Lab in Fall 2022 to pursue his Ph.D. at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. His research interest includes Nanoelectronics, Beyond CMOS Technologies, and Quantum Computing Hardware.

Brief Biography:

Jack received a B.S. degree in computer science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 2022, where he is currently pursuing an M.S. degree in computer engineering. During his undergraduate studies, he interned at
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), where he worked on machine learning techniques to detect power-related issues with the Titan Supercomputer. In 2021, he began working as an Undergraduate Research Assistant with the Nanoelectronic Devices and Integrated Circuits (NorDIC) Laboratory, where he continues to work during his graduate studies.

Brief Biography:

Tasnia Nobi Afee completed her B.Sc. in Computer Science from BRAC University, Bangladesh in 2018. After graduating, she worked for three years for a US-based IT firm in Bangladesh. She joined the NorDic Lab in Spring 2022 as a Local Volunteer Research Assistant. She is interested in machine learning and keen to apply it in novel applications. She is now pursuing an MS in computer engineering.

Brief Biography:

Dawson is currently pursuing an M.S. in electrical engineering at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. He received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the same university. He completed a co-op with Siemens Healthineers where he worked to develop the electronics for their next-generation PET and CT scanners.

Maria Hernandez Rivero

Brief Biography:

Maria studied electronic engineering for four years at the Simon Bolivar University (USB) in Venezuela. Then she switched careers and is currently completing her sophomore year of Computer Science studies at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. She worked as an undergraduate teaching assistant (URA) for EECS lecturer Camille Crumpton for two consecutive semesters (Spring 2022 and Fall 2022). During the Summer of 2022, she participated in an NSF-funded “Research Experiences in Microelectronics and Sensing Systems” Program under the supervision of Dr. Ahmedullah Aziz. She is currently working as an undergraduate research assistant (URA) in the NorDIC Lab and exploring the possibility of using machine learning to predict material properties.

Brief Biography:

Stephanie Tomasik will complete her undergraduate degree in electrical engineering in December of 2023 from the University of Tennessee. Throughout her academic career, she interned as a Production Engineering Co-Op with Denso Manufacturing and presently fulfills the role of an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Center for Ultra-Wide-Area Resilient Electrical Energy Transmission Networks (CURENT). Notably, she will pursue a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering in January 2024, further underscoring her commitment to continuous academic and professional development within this field.

Brief Biography:

Anthony is from New Jersey. He graduated from the Lenape High School in 2021 and is currently a student at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. He is pursuing a BS in Computer Information Technology. He loves playing sports, martial arts, coding, hanging out with friends, and video games.

Brief Biography:

Riya Patel is an undergraduate student (Junior) studying electrical engineering (Honors) with a computer science minor at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. She interned at Eastman Chemical as a Plant engineering intern in 2020 and worked with TVA as a power operations intern (present). She plans to pursue an MS degree after completing her undergraduate studies in electrical engineering.

Brief Biography:

Karan Patel is an undergraduate student studying computer engineering at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. He is interested in quantum computing and memory devices and plans on exploring these fields through simulations and modeling. He has been involved with NorDIC Labs since the Fall of 2020.

Brief Biography:

Will is an undergraduate student studying electrical engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He interned at Enterprise Electric LLC in 2019, where he helped analyze and implement electrical systems for Centennial Hospital in Nashville, TN. He has been working with Team NorDIC since Fall 2020.
